The Drowning (2017)

MOVIE DETAILS

THE DROWNING is a psychological thriller revolving around Danny Miller (Avan Jogia), a young man recently released from prison.

Tom (Josh Charles), a psychologist, is out walking with his wife (Julia Stiles) when he plunges into an icy river to rescue Danny from drowning.  Tom’s spontaneous act saves Danny’s life, but it is soon revealed that he is the same boy who was convicted of a chilling murder twelve years earlier.
Tom, the psychologist responsible for Danny’s conviction, becomes increasingly aware that Danny’s reappearance in his life is no coincidence. Gradually, he finds himself trapped by a charismatic and manipulative patient who might never let him out of his grip. Danny’s sudden appearance disrupts the stability of Tom’s marriage and threatens the success of his professional life.
Did Tom’s expert testimony truly sway the jury’s verdict and send the boy to prison, as Danny believes? Is Danny looking for revenge, redemption, or something else?
